Projector Agent, "skimmer" class. Agent Sands worked in Orpheus' research division, until a ghost that was under observation employed a previously unknown emanation and stopped his heart. Sands was revived, and developed projecting abilities due to the near-death experience. He was then transfered to Projecting Division and promoted to full Agent status.
Agent Sands had a reputation for being something of a hothead and a risk-taker, which occasionally put him at odds with Orpheus Group management. Following the death of his partner in an incident at the Elsevier Heights School for Gifted Students, however, Sands became introspective and withdrawn. He was often heard to proclaim that, given the nature of his abilities, death was meaningless, and that if death was meaningless, then life was meaningless as well.
Agent Sands' teenage daughter, Rochelle, was one of the victims of the mass poisoning at the Warehouse D rave. During the poisoner's apprehension, Sands attempted to kill the suspect, manifesting as a raging monster reminiscent of the most vicious types of spectre. Sands discovered that he was able to make this transformation at will, by channelling the grief and rage he felt at his daughter's death.
Since then, Doug's emotional condition has steadily worsened. He recently attempted to contact his daughter by entering the spectre hive at Graceful Repose Residential Towers. Although he was rescued, the long-term effects of such intense exposure to spectral emanations are unknown.
